requently Asked Questions About ChoLESStolife®
Who should use ChoLESStolife®?
1. Any adult experiencing a steady increase in LDL-cholesterol, especially if the LDL is still too low for pharmaceutical intervention. Using ChoLESStolife®, you may be able to delay or postpone entirely the onset of drug therapy.
2. Individuals already using statin drugs and have not reached their LDL-cholesterol goals, and are reluctant to increase the dose for safety concerns. Using ChoLESStolife® as a supplement to drug therapy may permit you to achieve your goal without additional statin drugs.
3. Those individuals who are for other health reasons, poor candidates for drug therapy.
What type of results can I expect and how soon?
ChoLESStolife® uses two measures of cholesterol reduction. The first is the ability of ChoLESStolife® to block overall cholesterol absorption, which is measured in the small intestine. The second is the ability to reduce LDL-cholesterol in the blood.
ChoLESStolife® has been proven to reduce total cholesterol absorption in the small intestine up to 38%, more than one-third, while lowering LDL cholesterol in the blood up to 14%.
How does this rate with other alternatives?
Unfortunately, there are many clinically unsupported and false product claims in the market today. As a potential user, you should consult your physician to make sure that what you are considering taking will deliver the benefit you want.
But as a general frame of reference, please refer to the table below.
- Soluble Fiber type products: 4% reduction in LDL-cholesterol.
- Plant sterols and stanols depending on delivery mechanism: 8% to 14% reduction in LDL-cholesterol.
- Statin and synthetic drugs: 25% to 45% reduction in LDL-cholesterol depending on dosage.
How soon will I see results?
ChoLESStolife shows effect after two weeks of treatment, but the full effect appears after four to six weeks.
What is cholesterol?
Cholesterol is a fatty substance that is an important component of all the cells in your body. Unfortunately, elevated levels of blood cholesterol can be a major risk factor for coronary heart disease. This "extra" cholesterol is synthesized in the liver and it is also part of the diet.
What exactly is a normal blood cholesterol level?
The National Cholesterol Education Program’s latest Adult Treatment Panel III (ATP III) published the following revised guidelines for optimal cholesterol levels:
It is estimated that 52% of all Americans (98 million) have total blood cholesterol levels above 200 mg/dL and 20% of American adults have a cholesterol level greater than 240 mg/dL (20%).
What can I do to lower my blood cholesterol levels?
The following lifestyle choices can have a substantial positive effect on cholesterol levels:
- Do not smoke.
- Maintain your weight at a healthy level.
- Examine your diet to minimize your daily intake of cholesterol and saturated fat.
What can I do if lifestyle changes do not affect my blood cholesterol levels?
You should always consult your physician in order to adopt a cholesterol lowering strategy that is consistent with your overall health and family history. If your blood cholesterol level is borderline high, he or she may recommend soy-based products, such as ChoLESStolife, that have been proven to lower blood cholesterol and the risk of heart disease.
What is ChoLESStolife®?
ChoLESStolife® contains soy stanol, a natural ingredient that is derived from soybeans, which has been shown by the FDA to reduce cholesterol and the risk of heart disease. This compound and many others of similar structure are present in most vegetable oils, nuts and legumes, and they are consumed as part of the daily diet. Lifeline Technologies has a patented method for blending these cholesterol-reducing agents with another natural product, Lecithin, to produce a mixture that blocks up to 38% of cholesterol absorption in the small intestine.
Will ChoLESStolife® lower my blood cholesterol and how long will it take?
In a number of carefully controlled clinical studies, ChoLESStolife® has been shown to lower LDL-cholesterol by 14%. This reduction can be achieved after only two weeks of administration.
Can I take ChoLESStolife® even though I am using other cholesterol lowering medication?
Yes. Other studies have shown that there is an additional reduction in blood cholesterol over and above that found with your statin medication. However, you should always inform your physician of any contemplated addition to your therapy.
What are the advantages of ChoLESStolife®?
Other products on the market that use soy stanols (like Benecol) require high fat as the delivery system. This approach generally uses margarine or salad dressing as a delivery system, increasing the caloric load of the consumer. While these products have been shown to be clinically effective, the consumer needs to balance their intake with other fat-containing foods in the diet. In addition, two to three servings are required per day, which is not always convenient for an active lifelstyle. The capsule formulation used by ChoLESStolife® permits much more flexible dosing, making it easier to take more then one dose per day if needed.
