![]() Lifeline Technologies, Inc. is a biotechnology company focused on the use of natural products for improving human health. Currently, the company is developing proprietary technology for the reduction of human cholesterol using a fat-free delivery system for soy sterols and soy stanols, compounds that are already present in the American diet. This fat-free powder, called ChoLESStolife®, contains naturally occurring compounds that the Food and Drug Administration recognizes as safe. Using its novel formulation technology, the Company has demonstrated a significant reduction in human cholesterol absorption and LDL-cholesterol. Lifeline has sponsored ten human cholesterol absorption studies and three chronic cholesterol reductions studies. All these blinded and placebo-controlled studies were performed under the supervision of the Human Studies Committee of a major Midwestern medical school. In recognition of the efficacy of this approach and the positive results found by the Company, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) awarded Lifeline a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant to further develop this novel strategy for cholesterol reduction. In January 2001, the Company announced a license agreement with Archer Daniels Midland for the application of Lifeline’s proprietary technology in a wide variety of foods, in particular non-fat and low-fat foods. |
